TUPIZA
- UYUNI 4D/ 3N
1st Day:
Leaving from Tupiza in a 4x4 jeep, we will visit Quebrada
de Palala which has spectacular red formations that
resemble needles reaching 4200m high. 15 Km from that
point is El Sillar or Valley of the Moon, where, due
to earth degradation, the landscape presents shapes
like a moon landscape showing peaks and craters.
Going up we arrive at Nazarenito, a small gold producing
village and Chilcobija, the deepest antimony mine of
the world. The landscape in this area is dry and you
can usually see condors flying.
We spend the first night in San Antonio de Lípez
( 4660 m.)

2nd Day:
Leaving early, in approximately half an hour, we visit
the old colonial and abandoned town of San Antonio del
Nuevo Mundo, distinguished for gold exploitation. Continue
to the Torreon, an area plenty of erosion showing volcanic
rocks.
Small towns as Quetena Chico (4140m.) and Quetena Grande
(4190m.)are on the way..
The tours visits Kollpa Laguna, where you can take a
bath in Río Amargo (hot springs) and we continue
through the border of Salar de Chalviri up to Laguna
Verde, it is located at the bottom of Volcan Licancabur
(5868m.).
The tour continues across big deserts and gets to Dale
Desert, a fantastic landscape and forests of erosion
stones of ignimbrites and petrified lava.
By the north we go into a geothermic lad called "Sol
de Mañana", a 1Km2 area of craters of lava
which are always in volcanic activity, burning and smoking
at 5.000m., where vapor is produced under a great pressure.
Many geysers are a great attraction too.
50 Km. from there Laguna Colorada It presents a brilliant
red color due to algae pigments, clorofitas and fine
sediments placed at the bottom of the lagoon. There
we can find many kinds of flamingos In the surroundings
areas we can also find 40 kinds of other birds.
3rd Day:
Leaving towards Desierto de Siloli, splashed with lava
volcanic formations, where you can see the famous "stone
tree" we continue towards the North where a series
of small lagoons gradually appear. The most important
are Laguna Hedionda, Chiarcota, Ramadita, Honda, Cañapa.
Then we continue walking along the way of the small
Salar de Chiguana. Most of these rest of salt pleistocenicos
lagoons which are located in small depressions. There
another fantastic attraction is Ollague Volcano.
We continue up to arriving to San Juan del Rosario.

4th Day:
Almost at the end of the tour, the last day, we cross
the biggest salt plain of the world: Salar de Uyuni
(10.500Km2). Here Tunupa volcano overhangs impressively.
This salt bed is considered to be the biggest of the
world. It is formed by 11 stratums, with a thickness
that ranges from 2 to 20 m. It is the biggest reserve
of energetic minerals in the world as lithium, magnesium,
potassium, nitrogen, phosphorus, borax and others. It
has 14 small islands, the main one is Incahuasi Island
or Fish Island (1 Km2) formed by calcareous rocks, rests
of corals and marine shells. You can see the amazing
"Ojos de agua" (eater sheds)in the salt bed.
They are spring sources Leaving the salt bed, we visit
Colchani, the village where they run the process of
salt.
Finally we arrive at Uyuni, the most important railway
center in the last years, the "train cemetery"
is located there.
The tour includes: Jeep 4x4 on the tour, full
board on the tour, 3 nights lodging, admission ticket
to Fish Island and park Avaroa.
The tour does not include: Sleeping bag, water
and snacks.
