Uyuni Salt Lake Tour

3 Days / 2 Nights

The Uyuni town (3676 meters) is located in southwest Bolivia in the Department of Potosí at a distance of 552 km from the city of La Paz.
Uyuni is the starting point for visiting important tourist attractions, especially the Salt Lake (10,582 km²), considered the largest salt desert in the world. This beautiful white landscape contrasts with the highland landscape of the region, with mountain ranges of volcanoes, deserts, and coloured lagoons, which are within the National Reserve Eduardo Avaroa. Another important feature of this region is the Andean fauna such as the Andean pink flamingos, Andean geese, llamas, vicunas, etc.
You can access Uyuni from La Paz by airplane (1hour) and by bus (10 hrs.), or by train (7hrs.) from the city of Oruro.

1st Day:
The tour begins at 10:30 visiting the Cemetery of Trains whose characteristic feature are locomotives of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. After this visit we go to the village of Colchani, where we look at the salt processing and piles of salt. We can also buy salt handicrafts. At 12:00 we visit the Eyes of Salt and the Salt Hotel which are in the middle of the Salt Lake. Later we go to Fish Island (Incahuasi Island) whose main feature are the giant cacti which reach a height over 8 meters. On this island we have lunch and then we have 2 and a half hours of free time to get to know the location and take pictures of this unique landscape in the world. Around 15:30 we go towards our Salt Hotel which is in the village of Atulcha (5 km outside of the Salt Lake) and at 19:00 we will have dinner.

2nd Day:
We begin the day at 07:30 with breakfast and then head to the Eduardo Avaroa Reserve. On the way we observe the Salt Lake of Chiguana where there is a military control post. At 12:00 we arrive in the area of lagoons and appreciate a variety of typical birds of this region. While we have lunch we fill our sights with this spectacular landscape of the High Plateau. After a trip of an 1 hour and a half we arrive at the Tree Stone and the Siloli Desert. At 17:00 we get to the Red Lagoon (4200 m) whose highlight is the variety of pink flamingos. After dinner we spend the night in simple hostels of the community.

3rd Day:
The third day of the tour starts very early at 05:00 arriving at Sol de Mañana after 1 hour and a half, where we see fumaroles and geysers. At 07.00, we go to the hot springs, arriving there at 08:00 for breakfast and if you want to you can take a bath. Around 09:45 we arrive at the Green and White Lagoon situated on the slopes of Licancabur Volcano. After visiting these lagoons we take those passengers who wish to complete the tour in Chile to the immigration offices located on the border where they transfer out to San Pedro de Atacama. (Optional.)
Around 10:30 we begin the trip back to Uyuni with the passengers who complete the tour in Uyuni.
