Uyuni Salt Lake Tour

3 Days / 2 Nights


The Uyuni town (3676 meters) is located in southwest Bolivia in the Department of Potosí at a distance of 552 km from the city of La Paz.
Uyuni is the starting point for visiting important tourist attractions, especially the Salt Lake (10,582 km²), considered the largest salt desert in the world. This beautiful white landscape contrasts with the highland landscape of the region, with mountain ranges of volcanoes, deserts, and coloured lagoons, which are within the National Reserve Eduardo Avaroa. Another important feature of this region is the Andean fauna such as the Andean pink flamingos, Andean geese, llamas, vicunas, etc.
You can access Uyuni from La Paz by airplane (1hour) and by bus (9hrs.), or by train (7hrs.) from the city of Oruro.

1st Day:
The tour begins at 10:30 when we visit the Cemetery of Trains whose characteristic are locomotives of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. After this visit, we go to the village of Colchani, where we look at the salt processing and piles of salt and we can also buy salt handicrafts. At 13:00 we visit the Eyes of Salt and the salt hotel which are in the middle of the Salt Lake where we have lunch. Later we go to Fish Island (Incahuasi Island), whose feature are the giant cacti which grow over 8 metres. On this island we have 2 hours of free time to get to know the location and take pictures of this landscape unique in the world. If the weather permits, we will be able to enjoy the sunset in the Salar. Around 19:00 we go towards our Salt Hotel (simple) which is in the village of San Juan. At 20:30 we will have dinner.

2nd Day:
We begin the day at 07:30 with breakfast and then head to the Eduardo Avaroa Reserve. On the way we observe the Salt Lake of Chiguana where there is a military control post. At 12:00 we arrive in the area of lagoons and appreciate a variety of typical birds of this region. While we have lunch we fill our sights with this spectacular landscape of the High Plateau. After a trip of an hour and a half we arrive at the Tree Stone and the Siloli Desert. At 17:00 we get to the Red Lagoon (4200 m) whose highlight is the variety of pink flamingos. After dinner we spend the night in simple hostels of the community.

3rd Day:
The third day of the tour starts very early at 05:00 arriving at Sol de Mañana after 1 hour and a half, where we see fumaroles and geysers. At 07.00, we go to the hot springs, arriving there at 08:00 for breakfast and if you want you can take a bath. Around 09:45 we arrive at the Green and White Lagoon situated on the slopes of Licancabur Volcano. After visiting these lagoons we take those passengers who wish to complete the tour in Chile to the immigration offices located on the border where they transfer out to San Pedro de Atacama. Around 10:30 we begin the trip back to Uyuni (arriving approximately 17:30) with the passengers who complete the tour in Uyuni.

The tour includes: Jeep 4×4 on the tour, driver speaks Spanish and is also guide, 2 nights lodging.
The tour does not include: Sleeping bag, admission ticket to Fish Island and Park Avaroa, water and snacks.
