Uyuni Salt Lake Tour

2 Days / 1 Night

The Uyuni town (3676 meters) is located in southwest Bolivia in the Department of Potosí at a distance of 552 km from the city of La Paz.
Uyuni is the starting point for visiting important tourist attractions, especially the Salt Lake (10,582 km²), considered the largest salt desert in the world. This beautiful white landscape contrasts with the highland landscape of the region, with mountain ranges of volcanoes, deserts, and coloured lagoons, which are within the National Reserve Eduardo Avaroa. Another important feature of this region is the Andean fauna such as the Andean pink flamingos, Andean geese, llamas, vicunas, etc.
You can access Uyuni from La Paz by airplane (1hour) and by bus (10 hrs.), or by train (7hrs.) from the city of Oruro.

1st Day:
The tour begins at 10:30 when we visit the Cemetery of Trains whose characteristic are locomotives of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. After this visit, we go to the village of Colchani, where we look at the salt processing and piles of salt and we can also buy salt handicrafts. At 12:00 we visit the Eyes of Salt and the salt hotel which are in the middle of the Salt Lake. Later we go to Fish Island (Incahuasi Island), whose feature are the giant cacti which grow over 8 metres. On this island we have lunch and then we have 2 and a half hours of free time to get to know the location and take pictures of this unique landscape in the world. Around 15:30 we go towards our Salt Hotel which is in the village of Chuvica (5 km outside of the Salt Lake) and at 19:00 we will have dinner.

2nd Day:
We start the tour at 08:30 with breakfast and then visit the village where we admire Aymara mummies. After we check out from the Salt Hotel we head to the Tunapa volcano arriving at the village of Coquesa at 12:30 where we have lunch and later climb to the lookout point of the volcano and visit more Aymara mummies. Around 15:30 we return to Uyuni getting there and ending the tour at 17:00.
