HUAYNA POTOSÍ 3D/2N
The mountain Huayna Potosí (6088 m) forms a part of the Andean mountain range (Cordillera Real). It is considered by the inhabitants of the city of El Alto (4000-4100 m) as their protector and guardian being the most representative mountain of this city.
Huayna Potosi (6088 m) is one of the most accessible mountains over 6000 meters of elevation since year after year it is climbed by hundreds of tourists because you don’t need experience but a good physical condition is indispensable for this activity.

1st Day:
This day starts when you are picked up from the hotel at 08:30. Then we head off in a private vehicle to the base camp (4700 m) 1 hour and 45 minutes away from the city of La Paz and around 11:00 we have lunch. After lunch the hike to the glaciar Viejo (old glacier) which takes 1 hour and a half. There we practice climbing on the ice using all the equipment we have. After 1 hour of practicing we return to the base camp around 16:00. At 18:00 we have dinner and rest in our tents.
2nd Day:
This day starts at 08:00 with breakfast. After 1 hour we prepare our things to climb to the High Camp at 5200 meters. We arrive there after 3 hours and have lunch at 12:30. We then have enough free time to get used to the elevation while the guide sets up the tent and prepares dinner. We have dinner at 17:00 and around 18:00 we rest until midnight.

3rd Day:
The third day starts very early at midnight with breakfast. We start the ascent to the summit of Huayna Potosi at 01:00. Starting at the High Camp we climb the glacier. The ascent takes 4 to 7 hours on average. The tourist is attached to the guide with a rope. The first part is relatively easy since the path has a slope of 45 degrees until you get to a plateau where there is a hill of 180 meters at a slope of 55 degrees.
From this point the ascent is more difficult due to the elevation and we use the ice axe. Around 06:30 we arrive at the summit (6088 m) where we can admire all the beauty of the Cordillera Real of the Andes. After 15 minutes we return to the High Camp in 2 hours, pick up the equipment and after 1,5 hours we descend to the base camp from where we return to La Paz arriving at the hotel at 14:00 hours.
